The Advancements and Applications of MMA Anti-Slip Pavement

In recent years, the traditional black and gray road surfaces, primarily composed of flexible asphalt and rigid cement, have gradually been diversified with the introduction of colorful and functional pavements. Among these, MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) anti-slip pavements have emerged as a prominent option, particularly in developed countries and regions. MMA, an acrylic resin primarily composed of methyl methacrylate, boasts a range of unique properties. It exhibits low-temperature and rapid curing capabilities, along with exceptional UV resistance, making it ideal for applications such as bullet-proof glass, weather-resistant organic glass, outdoor road coatings, and artificial bathtubs. Moreover, MMA resin offers a natural balance between hardness and toughness, coupled with wear resistance, weather resistance, and the ability to endure high temperature differences (-30°C to +70°C).

The application of MMA in anti-slip pavements leverages its high slip resistance, rich color palette, durability, and environmental friendliness. The surface roughness of MMA pavements can be adjusted to effectively reduce vehicle sliding distances and enhance road safety. The color options allow for customization to meet aesthetic demands and traffic signage requirements, improving driver recognition and enhancing road traffic capacity and safety.

MMA anti-slip pavements are primarily categorized into four types: scraper-and-spread, spray-dot, internally mixed scraper, and internally mixed roller. Each type has its unique application scenarios and construction processes. For instance, the scraper-and-spread type, with a thickness of 2-4mm, typically costs between 85-130 yuan per square meter. The spray-dot type, around 2-3mm thick, ranges from 85-110 yuan per square meter. The internally mixed scraper type, also 2-3mm thick, costs 78-98 yuan per square meter, while the internally mixed roller type, 1-2mm thick, is priced between 55-68 yuan per square meter.

The installation of MMA pavements is not restricted by climate or temperature, allowing for year-round construction, even in extreme cold conditions (-30°C). Furthermore, the construction process requires minimal machinery, can be completed manually, and allows for rapid curing. Pedestrians can walk on the pavement 30 minutes after application, and vehicles can use it after one hour.

MMA pavements are thin overlays (2-4mm thick) that provide a high-friction wear-resistant layer, sealing the road surface, resisting rutting, and offering waterproof and anticorrosive properties. They are ideal for various road types, including highways, urban roads, parking lots, large communities, and specialized areas such as tunnels, ETC lanes, bus lanes, pedestrian paths, slow lanes, health trails, greenways, factory roads, commercial plazas, and underground garage ramps.

The versatility of MMA materials makes them suitable for different scenarios and requirements. The resin-to-aggregate ratio and the reaction time of the resin after mixing can affect the surface texture, showcasing the material's plasticity.
